AdSense is an ad serving program run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image and, more recently, video advertisements on their sites. These ads are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-thousand-impressions basis. Google is also currently beta-testing a cost-per-action based service.
Google utilizes its search technology to serve ads based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted ad system may sign up through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the ads are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the ads is often relevant to the website.
It currently uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating site. If it is included on a site which has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, it will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes known as public service announcements (PSAs). (Note that the Mediabot is a separate crawler from the Googlebot that maintains Google's search index.)
Many sites use AdSense to monetize their content and some webmasters work hard to maximize their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:
1. They use a wide range of traffic generating techniques including but not limited to online advertising.
2. They build valuable content on their sites which attracts AdSense ads which pay out the most when they get clicked.
3. They use copy on their websites that encourage clicks on ads. Note that Google prohibits people from using phrases like "Click on my AdSense ads" to increase click rates. Phrases accepted are "Sponsored Links" and "Advertisements".
The source of all AdSense income is the AdWords program which in turn has a complex pricing model based on a Vickrey second price auction, in that it commands an advertiser to submit a sealed bid (not observable by competitors). Additionally, for any given click received, advertisers only pay one bid increment above the second-highest bid.

MySpace Marketing Tactics
For anyone serious about marketing on Myspace it's most definitely best utilized as an add on to an existing 'sales' site or marketing strategy.
Of course, the great benefit is that you can find profiles of prospects interested in your exact niche and contact them rather than relying on them finding you via your main site.
But you have to take it further than simply add them to your friends and bulletin, message and comment them. As with any business you need to build a relationship with them and gain their confidence.
As your profile gives them a glimpse at the real you, more so than the sales copy on your site could do, you're a big step closer to getting that relationship going.
Those guys that transfer their sales copy to their Myspace profile are doomed to fail or at least see much poorer results than they would if they revealed themselves a little. Myspace users are not in the right frame of mind to be marketed to when they're cruising through the site and checking people out.
Once you have your friends list you should endeavour to take them off Myspace and build a list for more direct contact and further relationship building.
I've found Myspace to be a quick way to build a very targeted list. Not the fastest way but a relatively easy way and every extra soul on your list is a potential sale further down the line. ;)

The $100 Challenge
During our first official poll here, we found out that most readers and visitors of Just Make Money Online don’t make any money from the web at all. And, those who do, only make between US$1 - 100.
With this in mind, I’d like to pose a challenge. Or a project. Just something we can all do for fun (and profit!) to kickstart 2007.
To join this project:
1) Think of any online venture (eBay auction, AdSense, CafePress, etc. - or a combination) that you’d like to use for this project. We will all start with $0 from 1st Jan 2007. Yes, even if you were already earning something from this venture before, we begin with 0. But, to make this more challenging and interesting, it’ll be great if you can choose a project that hasn’t been fully tested yet. So, if you know you’ve been earning regularly from something, then it might be best not to use that venture for this project.
2) Blog about this project (linking back will be great) and mention your intent to earn at least $100 by the end of 2007. Share the link to your blog entry, so I can link back to you and include you as participant in this project.
3) Share some insights and other activities that you do to reach the US$100 target.
4) As soon as you reach the target, tell us all about it so we can share your story.

Who's making money online and how?
Rosalind Gardner - Super Affiliate Sage-Hearts.com.
Rosalind Gardner makes an extraordinary amount of money online, utilising affiliate programs with a 40% - 50% commission, she earns $30k - $50 each month. This amounts to $435,000+ a year.
Rosalind's main site is focused on the online dating scene and it revolves around the reviewing and recommending of online dating sites.
Currently the site promotes 24 different affiliate programs some of which pay between 40% - 50% commission.
The site has been online since 98 and when first conceived it was heavily promoted in the search engines but less so now although still important the bulk of new traffic generated comes from carefully setup PPC campaigns on Google, Overture, 7search and Findwhat.
Totalling 1.6 million hits per month at 4500 hits per day the site see's a phenomenal amount of traffic.
This traffic is carefully primed with affiliate product reviews resulting in a higher than average conversion rate for her affiliate programs.
You can find the details of how Rosalind reached super affiliate status and what she does day to day to stay there, in her just released eBook documenting her successful techniques and strategies. www.superaffiliatehandbook.com - 250+ pages of workable knowledge built up over the last five years. This is one of the better eBooks out there and could quiet easily be published offline such is the quality of the writing and information.
Phil Davies - Affiliate marketer Exercise-Equipment-Review.com
20-something Phil Davies from Liverpool illustrates what can be done with any site with the right techniques and strategies in place.
Set apart from the usual fare of Internet marketing sites selling you info on Internet marketing. Phil's site utilises the fundamental Internet marketing principles that anyone can follow to develop and run a successful Internet business.
Notice the domain name above for one. Although unwieldy and not very attractive its straight to the point on telling you what it is and the hyphens separate the words out allowing the search engines to read them and so rank the site better.
The site provides reviews of different types and models of exercise equipment. At the end of each review there's an affiliate link to a suppliers site. That's it really.
Not to disparage Phil's efforts, but I'm sure he would agree, his site is very basic and in fact it doesn't even carry any product images. Plus the navigation is not as intuitive as it could be. But despite that, the site works well and brings in $5000 - $7000 a month exclusively through affiliate programs.
All the traffic comes from the search engines no other types of advertising have been used. Phil spent a lot of time otimising the site and always optimises new content. Again it's the reviews that pre-qualify the visitor before they click on the affiliate link to make a purchase.
The main aim of the site is to catch visitors that are already in the buying cycle and then guide them, via reviews, to the purchase they want to make.
Jim Tarabocchia - Drop shipping Just-Binoculars.com
What's drop shipping? For more details - make money online
The name says it all. The site focuses on binoculars, spotting scopes and rangefinders. But.. it brakes it down to the different uses a pair of binoculars can be put to and so focuses on the niche markets within this market. e.g. hunting, travelling, stadium sports, night vision etc. 200 different types of binoculars so this is a fairly large site, but, tightly focused.
Again there's the hyphen in the domain name and the focused choice of domain name.
90% of site traffic comes from the search engines with paid for listings in the region of $1000 helping to speed up the Search engine listing and ranking process in Yahoo, Inktomi, Ask Jeeves etc.
Jim designed andbuilt the site himself over a few months and eight months after going live its turn over is $104,000. The forecast is for $200,000 - $250,000 over the next year. A phenomenal conversion rate of 1 in every 75 visitors to a paying customer will almost definitely see this goal reached.
There's also a monthly newsletter that's focused on pinpointing the benefits of different kinds of binoculars and promotions linked to seasonal use e.g. hunting.
